Green Peafowl

Found in forests, grasslands, and scrublands across countries like Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and parts of Indonesia, Green Peafowl prefer areas near water bodies and are often found in dense forest regions with open spaces for foraging. They are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of foods including seeds, fruits, insects, small mammals, and reptiles. Males are known for their elaborate courtship displays. Outside the breeding season, Green Peafowl are generally solitary or found in small groups. During the breeding season males become highly territorial. The Green Peafowl is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss, hunting, and poaching. Their population has significantly declined over the years, and they are now confined to fragmented pockets of their former range. This species is closely related to the Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus), but is distinguishable by its greener coloration and different vocalizations.
