| The ship drifted while we were ashore, as it was too deep to anchor. On shore we unexpectedly
met a lone Ukranian ornithologist, living on the island and studying white sheathbills. There was a memorial on the island for three
researchers who had disappeared while on a climbing expedition across the bay, and were never found.
