Introduction

I am a former aquatic biologist, programmer/analyst, and educator, now retired. This website reflects my passion for photography, the natural world, and all my former careers. It has been a work in progress since 2001, when it started as a final project for an HTML class I was enrolled in at a local community college. I have no idea why I decided to learn HTML at that point. When I got to Southeast Asia in 2006, I was amazed by all the new and interesting creatures I saw, everywhere I went. I decided I needed to save and organize the numerous photos I was rapidly accumulating. I resurrected my old HTML project, started adding photos from Southeast Asia, and eventually converted it to a live internet website. Over the years it has been expanded to what you see today.

Canadian Arctic

In July of 1997 I spent 10 days canoeing through the Thelon Wildlife Sanctuary. The Sanctuary was established in 1927 and is the largest wildlife refuge in Canada. It consists of 52,000 square kilometers, located above the tree line, straddling the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Our guide was the late Alex Hall (RIP), a leading expert on the Northwest Territories and Arctic Wolves. Ten of us canoed about 150 miles and never saw another soul.

Antarctica

I spent the month of January 2001 exploring the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic Peninsula on board the MV Professor Multanovskiy, a Russian research ship converted for passenger use. The ship was owned by the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute of St. Petersburg. She was built in 1982 in Finland. The trip was organized by Quark Expeditions, of Darien, CT.

Thailand and Laos

Since 2006 I have resided in Southeast Asia. My favorite wildlife photos are included here. I do not collect specimens, so keep in mind that all species identifications have been made by me, on the basis of these photographs. All photos were taken in northeastern Thailand, unless otherwise noted.

USA

I occasionally return to the USA; while there I spend most of my time on the Oregon coast, or in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Here is a collection of my favorite photos from these locations. I have also included here some favorite photos taken in southern Arizona by my sister Jan.

Japan

I spent several weeks in Kyoshu, Japan in July 2014. Here are some of my favorite photographs from that expedition.
