Grytviken, South Georgia

Day 8: January 20th

"The weather was sunny and calm. I wandered around the station, and then went over to the graveyard, where Shackleton is buried. Tony (Soper) and most of the passengers met there at 11:15, and we toasted the Boss' memory with Irish whiskey."

(Grytviken is an abandoned Norwegian whaling station. Earnest Shackleton died here aboard his ship in 1922. Two people live here year-round, and maintain the church, the museum, and a post office.)
