| "At Deception Island the weather remains windy, with intermittent snow flurries. We anchored in Whaler's Bay, and went ashore at the abandoned Norwegian whaling station. I explored the abandoned buildings, including the hanger and one single-engined airplane, an Otter with "British Antarctic Survey" still visible on the side. The entire base is now covered with about six feet of volcanic ash, from the 1967 eruption."
