"We went ashore at cooper Bay onto a small gravel beach (there were fur seals on the beach). We
climbed up a stream bed through the tussock, along the lower edge of a large snow field. There were fur seals everywhere in the
tussock. Above the beach, in the tussock we came upon a Macaroni Penguin colony. There were a few chicks in their grey down plumage. The Macaroni Penguins made an incredible racket.... A pair would, in unison, extend their heads straight up in the air, bray loudly, and whip their heads back and forth from one side to the other..."
